Becoming the Woman I Needed — I No Longer Need To Explain Myself 🌿

Lately… I’ve stopped explaining myself. Not because I have become rude. But because I am tired. Tired of defending every little choice I make. Every outing. Every purchase. Every decision. As if I need permission to live my own life. And honestly… I’ve realised something — people who want to judge you will judge you anyway. No matter how much you explain. So now… I choose silence. Because silence has become peace for me. For years, I kept adjusting. Running errands. Taking care of the kids. Managing school, studies, sports, housework… doing everything without stopping. And yet… the moment I ask for help, suddenly it becomes wrong. If I ask my son to help me with something, I hear: “Why are you treating him like a servant?” And I sit there wondering — is asking your own child to help at home wrong? Am I supposed to carry everything alone all the time? Does it not matter if I am tired? Unwell? Emotionally exhausted? And the strangest part is — if I do everything myself, then I’m told: “You could do it yourself anyway, why ask for help?” That mentality hurts. Because a home belongs to everyone. Helping should not depend on whether I ask or not. And honestly… all of this pressure, criticism, and constantly feeling misunderstood affected me deeply. There was a point where I even had an emotional breakdown. Because when you keep holding everything inside for years… eventually your heart gets tired too. People see what you didn’t do once. But they never stop to notice everything you do every single day. That pain stays quietly inside you. But honestly… I’ve stopped expecting people to understand. Because people will always find something to complain about anyway. Not just in responsibilities. Even in the way you speak. Some people are loud. Some soft. Some quiet. God made everyone differently. But even if your tone slightly changes, people suddenly say: “Why are you shouting?” Or they tell you to “shut up.” And I think to myself — why? Am I not allowed to speak? I have a voice too. And just because someone has a problem with me does not mean I should stop being myself. If my voice bothers you that much, put earphones in your ears. Simple. I have realised people often want you to behave according to their comfort only. Like yesterday… I was talking to a friend on the phone. My mother-in-law kept calling. When I called back later, I was questioned: “Why didn’t you pick up?” And I simply said: “I was already on another important call.” And honestly… why should that even need explaining? Just because I am married into a family does not mean my entire life should revolve around everyone else’s expectations. I am still my own person. I have my own life. My own space. My own thoughts. And lately… I’ve finally understood something important — you came alone into this world and you will leave alone too. You cannot spend your whole life trying to satisfy everyone else. Because if you do… you slowly become a robot. Living according to everyone else’s rules. Everyone else’s moods. Everyone else’s opinions. And somewhere in all of that… you lose yourself. I did that for years. Overexplaining. Overgiving. People-pleasing. And still… people found reasons to be unhappy with me. So now… I choose differently. I choose myself. My peace. My happiness. And yes… sometimes I still feel scared. Anxious. Because for so long I never truly thought about myself. So choosing myself now feels unfamiliar. But deep down… I know it is necessary. Because if you want peace, sometimes you have to speak up. Sometimes you have to stop explaining. Sometimes you have to let people feel however they want to feel. That is not your responsibility anymore. My faith in God gives me strength through all of this. I truly believe He is guiding me back to myself. And eventually… I will reach exactly where I need to be. Until then… I will keep choosing peace over pressure. Myself over pleasing everyone. And calmness over constant explanations 🌿
